Please be aware that only a parent or legal guardian may arrange for the sacraments, or religious education, of a minor child. It must be confirmed that any person registering a minor child for continuing religious education, or sacramental preparation, has the legal authority to do so. If that adult’s name is not reflected on the child’s birth certificate, or in the case of an already baptized minor child, on the baptismal certificate, the person must provide the proper documentation that shows he/she has the legal right to arrange for the spiritual needs of this child."Parents must participate in a parish-provided program that leads them to understand and therefore be supported in their role as “first teachers of their child in the ways of faith” (Rite of Baptism for Children, Final Blessing 105).
According to the precepts of Canon Law (CIC 857, §2), parents requesting Baptism of their child should ordinarily be members of the parish. With special permission of their pastor, they may request Baptism in another parish."

Baptisms are celebrated during Mass for infants under 12 months old in English on Saturdays at 5pm or Sundays at 8am or in Spanish on Sundays at 4pm Mass. We also celebrate baptisms for children over the age of one on available Saturday mornings without Mass in English or Spanish. Once the requirements have been met, we will be happy to schedule a date with your family. Please complete the requirements 2-3 months prior to your desired date. During Holiday months, our times for Baptisms are very limited.
Los bautismos se celebran durante la Misa para bebés menores de un año en inglés los sábados a las 5 p.m. o los domingos a las 8 a.m. o en español los domingos a las 4 p.m. También celebramos bautismos para niños mayores de un año los sábados por la mañana disponibles sin Misa en inglés o Español. Una vez que se hayan cumplido los requisitos, estaremos encantados de programar una cita con su familia. Complete los requisitos 2-3 meses antes de la fecha deseada. REQUIREMENTS for children under the age of 6:
- CHOOSE a godparent/sponsor for your child. A godparent/sponsor should be a person that will help you raise your child in the Catholic faith. The Catholic Church states that only one godparent/sponsor, male or female, is necessary, but you can choose a maximum of two. If there are two godparents/sponsors-one must be male, and one must be female. The sponsor should be someone who lives an appropriate life of faith and is in good standing with the Catholic Church. They must at least 16 years of age, and a Roman Catholic who has received the sacraments of Baptism, First Eucharist, and Confirmation. If they are married, their marriage must be recognized by the Catholic Church. Godparents are required to purchase their own account with Ascension and watch the Belonging: Certification course for baptismal preparation or they can take a baptism preparation course through their Catholic Church. A person who has never been baptized Catholic, but still lives a Christian life may be a Christian witness in addition to the one Catholic godparent/sponsor. One must be male, and one must be female. It is recommended that the Christian Witness also watch the baptismal preparation videos, Belonging: Baptism in the Family of God from Ascension. Both parents and godparent(s) must participate in a baptismal preparation class. If the godparent is not registered at Our Lady of the Lake, a letter of good standing is required from their Catholic church.
A Baptized person who is not a Catholic may also act, not as a sponsor, but as a Christian witness to the Baptism. (Canon 873, 874 §1).
- Parents must be members of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. If you are registered at another Catholic Church, you will be asked to provide a letter of permission for your child to be baptized here. This can be requested from your church.
- To register with Our Lady of the Lake or to update your parish records, please click here. Please follow the instructions on that page to either update or register as a new member.
- REGISTER with Ascension and purchase the online certification course called Belonging: Baptism in the Family of God. The cost is $11.95. These online videos are presented in English or Spanish. The class certificate is good for three years. (click on the word Ascension to be directed to their website) When you set up your account with Ascension Press, please set up your profile and pay for the online certification course using both parent's names so the certificate will print in both of your names. The godparents will need to set up their own account in their name so the certificate will print in their name. Once you register and purchase the videos this will give you access to the videos. You will need to login with your username and password. For additional help with the videos, please call Ascension Press at 800-376-0520.
After you and the godparents have completed the baptismal preparation class and have a copy of the child's birth certificate, and the letter of good standing for the godparents, please complete this Baptism Information Form. There you will list some dates that would work for your family for the Baptism and we will check our availability.

REQUERIMIENTOS para niños menores de 6 años:
